Illuminating Legal Solutions Across Every Interval

Look, we've been doing this for years now, and here's what we've learned - every business hits those moments where you really need someone who gets it. Not just the law books, but the actual pressure you're under when deals are on the line or disputes get messy. That's where we come in.

We're based right in the heart of Toronto's financial district, and honestly, that's no accident. We've watched companies grow from startup phases to major players, helped navigate acquisitions that seemed impossible at first, and yeah, we've gone to bat in litigation when things couldn't be settled any other way. Our approach isn't about throwing legal jargon at you - it's about actually understanding what keeps you up at night and fixing it.

Robert Callahan
Managing Partner

Robert Callahan

Rob's been practicing corporate law for over 18 years, and honestly, he's seen just about everything. Started his career at one of Bay Street's big firms before realizing he wanted to actually know his clients personally. Founded Luminex Interval back in 2016 with the idea that legal services should be accessible, transparent, and focused on real business outcomes.

He's handled M&A deals worth over $300 million, structured countless business formations, and has a particular knack for seeing around corners in complex transactions. Outside the office, he's usually coaching his kids' soccer team or trying (and often failing) to beat his best golf score.

Amanda Suresh

Amanda joined Luminex Interval in 2017 and quickly became the go-to person when disputes escalate. She's got this rare combination of being incredibly thorough in preparation while also knowing exactly when to push hard and when to pull back during negotiations. Her track record speaks for itself - 89% success rate in commercial litigation.

Before joining the firm, she spent eight years doing civil litigation at a mid-sized firm downtown. What clients really appreciate about Amanda is that she doesn't sugar-coat things - you'll always know exactly where you stand in a case. When she's not in court or prepping cases, she's probably at a hot yoga class or planning her next international hiking trip.

His experience includes handling over 200 employment matters, from complex terminations to workplace investigations, plus he's filed hundreds of trademark applications and negotiated licensing deals across multiple industries. Our Journey So Far

We didn't become who we are overnight. Here's how we got here, milestone by milestone.

2016

Luminex Interval Founded

Rob Callahan opened the doors with a simple vision - provide top-tier corporate legal services without the stuffy attitude and excessive fees. Started with just two lawyers and a shared office space on King Street. Our first client? A local tech startup that's now worth over $50 million. Yeah, we're pretty proud of that one.

2017

Litigation Practice Launched

Amanda Suresh joined as Senior Partner, bringing her extensive litigation experience. We expanded into commercial disputes and quickly built a reputation for actually winning cases. Handled our first major breach of contract trial that year and secured a $2.3 million judgment for our client. Word got around fast after that.

2018

Employment & IP Division

Michael Torres came aboard, bringing his unique blend of employment law and IP expertise. This expansion let us offer comprehensive services to our growing tech and creative industry client base. We also moved to our current office suite - way more space, better coffee machine, and an actual boardroom for client meetings.

2020

Pivoting Through the Pandemic

Like everyone else, we had to adapt fast. Went fully remote within a week, implemented secure video conferencing for client meetings, and honestly? Learned that a lot of legal work doesn't require in-person meetings. We helped dozens of clients navigate pandemic-related employment issues, contract disputes, and restructuring. Tough year but we came out stronger.

2022

M&A Practice Expansion

Our merger and acquisition advisory practice really took off. Closed 28 deals that year alone, totaling over $180 million in transaction value. Added two more associate lawyers to keep up with demand. Also launched our contract review subscription service for startups and small businesses - flat monthly fee, unlimited contract reviews. It's been a huge hit.

2024

Record Growth Year

Handled over 300 new client matters, expanded our team to ten legal professionals, and achieved a 98% client satisfaction rating. We also started offering free quarterly legal workshops for Toronto entrepreneurs - something we wish existed when we were starting out. The firm's grown, but we've kept that same approachable, no-nonsense attitude from day one.

2026

Looking Ahead

We're continuing to grow strategically, always prioritizing quality over quantity. Got some exciting plans in the works including expanded services in tech law and cross-border transactions. But at the end of the day, we're still about the same thing we started with - providing excellent legal services to businesses that need practical solutions, not corporate speak.

Questions We Get Asked A Lot

These are the questions that come up in almost every initial consultation. Figured we'd answer them here to save you some time.

Honestly, this is the question everyone wants answered upfront, and I totally get it. Our fees vary depending on what you need. For straightforward stuff like basic contract reviews or simple incorporations, we often work on a flat fee basis - you'll know exactly what it costs before we start. Corporate transactions and litigation are usually billed hourly, with our rates ranging from $275 to $450 per hour depending on the lawyer's experience level.

We always provide detailed fee estimates upfront and send regular billing updates so there aren't any surprises. For ongoing business clients, we offer retainer arrangements and subscription services that can significantly reduce costs. Schedule a consultation and we'll give you a clear picture of what your specific situation will cost.

Look, you can technically file incorporation documents yourself or use one of those online services. But here's what we see happen - people save a few hundred bucks upfront, then end up paying us thousands later to fix problems that could've been avoided. Wrong business structure for their tax situation, missing shareholder agreements, unclear ownership terms... it gets messy.

A proper legal setup isn't just about filing paperwork. It's about choosing the right structure, protecting your personal assets, setting up proper governance, and making sure everyone's on the same page about who owns what. The peace of mind alone is worth it, plus you'll save money in the long run by doing it right the first time.

Wish I could give you a simple answer here, but it really depends. A straightforward breach of contract case that settles might wrap up in 6-9 months. Something more complex that goes to trial? You're looking at 18-24 months, sometimes longer. The Ontario court system isn't exactly known for speed, unfortunately.

That said, about 67% of our cases settle before trial, which saves time and money for everyone involved. We're always looking for opportunities to resolve disputes efficiently, but we're also prepared to go the distance when that's what's needed. During your initial consultation, we can give you a more specific timeline based on your particular situation.

The more information you can provide upfront, the more productive our meeting will be. Bring any relevant documents - contracts, correspondence, court documents, corporate records, whatever relates to your situation. Even if something seems minor, bring it along. We've had cases where a seemingly unimportant email ended up being crucial.

Also, write down a timeline of events and any questions you have. When you're in the meeting, it's easy to forget stuff you wanted to ask. Don't worry if things aren't perfectly organized - we'll help you sort through everything and figure out what's important. And yeah, everything you tell us is confidential, so be completely honest about the situation.

Absolutely, and we handle these fairly regularly, especially with US companies. Toronto's economy is pretty integrated with cross-border business, so we've built up solid experience with international transactions. We work with partner firms in other jurisdictions when needed to make sure all the local legal requirements are covered.

Whether it's structuring a Canadian subsidiary for a foreign company, negotiating international distribution agreements, or handling cross-border M&A deals, we know how to navigate the complexities. The key is understanding both the legal frameworks involved and the practical business considerations. We've probably dealt with whatever jurisdiction you're working with before.

A few things, honestly. First, we actually return phone calls and emails promptly - sounds basic but you'd be surprised how many firms don't. Second, we explain things in language you can understand without all the unnecessary legal jargon. Third, we're transparent about costs and strategy from the beginning.

But the biggest difference? We genuinely care about your business outcomes, not just billing hours. We've built relationships with clients that have lasted years because we treat their problems like they're our own. Our size is also an advantage - we're big enough to handle complex matters but small enough that you'll always have direct access to senior lawyers. You won't get passed off to junior associates who don't know your file.

Yeah, definitely. Since the pandemic we've gotten really good at virtual meetings, and honestly, they work great for most situations. We use secure video conferencing platforms that protect client confidentiality. A lot of our clients actually prefer virtual meetings - saves travel time and you can meet with us from wherever you are. That said, if you prefer meeting in person at our office downtown, we're totally set up for that too. Whatever works best for you.

When something's truly urgent, we move fast. We've taken calls at 8pm, reviewed contracts over weekends, and filed emergency applications when deadlines were tight. If you're facing an immediate legal issue - like you just got served with a lawsuit, received a cease and desist letter, or are dealing with a time-sensitive business matter - call us right away.

For urgent matters, we typically respond within a few hours and can often meet with you same-day or next-day. Obviously depends on everyone's schedule, but we prioritize emergencies. Regular business matters we usually respond to within 24 hours. We know that when legal issues come up, they rarely happen at convenient times.

Still have questions? That's what we're here for.
